This quote was spoken by Wakka, who often seems to refer to himself in the third person. When he's not busy saving the world, Wakka serves as the Captain of the Besaid Aurochs Blitzball team. In fact, he's so devoted to the sport that he even fights with a Blitzball. An Official Ball, to be exact. You might not think it too practical to combat various monsters with only one ball, but Wakka manages it magnificently. After hitting his enemies with a powerful shot, he is always able to catch the rebound. Now that's skill! Another strength of this character is his Jamaican accent, that allows him to use lines like this quote when he steps into battle, or accuse himself of being a big jerk. In the third person, of course. Final Fantasy X actually features quite a bit of good quality voice-acting. This is often hard to come by in any sort of videogame, but you only have to hear Wakka to know it was successful in this case. Auron also has an awesome voice, and just as many cool lines as Wakka. But that would be the topic for another quote.
Finally, I just want to make a few comments on Blitzball. It serves as the ubiquitous sport in FFX, and puts any real sport to shame. What other game features players underwater for five minutes at a time while they struggle to kick the Blitzball into the other team's net? It's also a full contact sport, which only increases the drama of wondering whether any player is going to drown during the game. Of course, no one ever does. There seem to be a few other unwritten rules in Blitzball. First of all, with the exception of two invisible shots, every other shot on the goal seems to be aimed at the same corner of the net. What's worse is the fact that the goalies never seem to see it coming. They always position themselves in the middle of the net, forcing them to dive for the same corner every time in the hope of stopping the ball. If the goalies actually placed themselves in that corner from the beginning, they would be able to stop all shots save the aforementioned invisible ones. Still, this slight inconsistency doesn't make the game nearly as unbalanced as, say, Quidditch, where only the seeker's actions really matter. I'm sure Wakka would be good at that sport too.
This is the kind of quote that should have been put up long since. But oh man, in my best imitation of Wakka, I was just being so lazy. Or to be more precise, I was distracted by a myriad of other quotes. However, finally this quote takes center stage, demonstrating that Wakka is really back on the field. For those few who don't know, this quote comes from the epic videogame Final Fantasy X. It was released some time ago to great acclaim, which it fully deserved. The game was very well done and still the pinnacle of PlayStation 2 games as far as I'm concerned. Of course, you must bear in mind that the only other PS2 RPG I've played involves facing the supposedly dangerous Japanese Army, which still hasn't discovered the amazing tactic of attacking with more than two soldiers at once. I really have to wonder how they could win any sort of large scale battle by sending in their troops two at a time. But I've digressed from the point rather noticeably. I could write quite a few pages simply detailing and reviewing the awesome aspects of FFX. Instead, I'll just stick with explaining the quote at hand.
