Catches thieves just like flies!

Everyone should already know that this quote comes from the old Spiderman theme song. Everyone should also know that this was a great song. The old Spiderman cartoon might have been extremely choppy, with horrible animation, but at least it had a good opening song. And the way Spiderman could swing through the streets by firing his web straight up into the sky was rather incredible. Either that web could attach to clouds, in which case I'd say it was quite amazing, or there was a large UFO always hovering above the Spiderman. In which case, I'd say the city was in bigger danger than any posed by Dr. Octopus and the other cheesy villains. But that's all rather beside the point. Lately, that old cartoon has been eclipsed by the release of the new Spiderman film. This movie involved a big budget, big hype and big profits. Its immense popularity seemed to imply that it was a great movie. As I later found, such was not the case.

Of course, by the time I saw the movie, I had heard so many favorable reviews that I was expecting something spectacular. The movie couldn't come close to delivering on that expectation. It was worth the cheap price I paid, but little more than that. They made several mistakes in making this movie, and correcting them would have much improved it. The first of these is the topic of this quote. When such an awesome opening song already exists, it should certainly be used. Some people tell me there was a subtle referance to this opening theme during the movie, but this referance certainly deserved to be more than subtle. I would have been satisfied after only the opening titles if they used this proper music. Is he strong? Listen up! He's got radioactive blood! It's also great how radioactive blood is assumed to grant amazing powers, such as super strength. Frankly, I still believe that Milk grants more might than any amount of radioactivity. In any case, the new movie was also much too serious. Spiderman's trademarks involve wisecracks and sarcastic comments as he faces off against his often-goofy foes. This was totally lacking in the film. Still, the movie did feature a cameo by Bruce Campbell in the wrestling scene, and his part was certainly the highlight of the entire show.

Of course, there has been a great trend towards converting superheroes into movies. Some succeed, and others fail. Considering the recent push in that direction, I suspect it's only a matter of time before the Vanilla Coke guy gets his own movie. Fighting crime one headlock at a time, by 'rewarding' the villains' curiosity with New Vanilla Coke. After tasting it, they'll realise that crime just doesn't pay if this new coke is the consequence. That's about all there is to say about this quote. This is an extremely busy time of year, and thus I can't really afford to ramble on. So I'll leave it at that.
