The Sign Shot

This quote was chosen mainly in honor of the trip upon which I embark shortly. During these family vacations, someone who shall remain nameless is sure to bring the video camera where ever we go. We do look like the classic tourists, always taking pictures of stupid things such as rocks, bushes and yes, even signs. Seems that tourists find everything interesting, especially these signs. This is due to the fact that the signs (often distance signs) will tell you the name of the place where the next pictures will be taken, so they're good for situating shots. Of course, they're also stupid. If I want to take a picture of a sign, I can do it right near my own home. My favorite sign was one which read simply: "Next sign: 5km." Another good one was the one which stated: "It is illegal to throw rocks at this sign." Both real signs, I swear! Although I really can't remember where I saw them; probably in some out of the way country. I think signs like these should be more common in general. Of course, it should be noted that the sign which said not to throw rocks at it was dotted with dents from thrown rocks. What more could you expect?

Speaking of trigger-happy photographers, I had a friend who took over a hundred pictures in like two days. It had gotten to the point where he was taking pictures of trees through the windows of the bus. Needless to say, he is now known as the camera king. Another true story is as follows. We had travelled to a different province, and one of the people in our group started taking pictures of a pink Sidekick. (A Sidekick is an all-terrain vehicle primarily driven by the Man himself). Of course, taking pictures of this vehicle was hardly necessary, since there are plenty where we came from. But people just become crazy as soon as you put a camera in their hand. All they want to do is take pictures of cars and signs. Well, enough of that.
