Blitzoff! - Section 2

Space...The final frontier.

Adventure Overview

Players: Rei, Mr. Rhyze, Morton.
Enemies: The Coffee Barons, the Fenixa Infernos.
Started: With the return of the Warden's ship to Epsilon.
Ended: After the away-team departed from Starbase.

Rayde
Race: Fenixan
Occupation: Team Captain of the Fenixa Infernos
Rayde is the obnoxious and arrogant captain of the Fenixa Blitzball team. His first actions in the campaign involved taunting the Deksiilan team with various rude gestures. Even while underwater, he wears his trademark black leather jacket. Rayde also sports a red bandanna and a pair of dark shades. He is known to have a very powerful shot, and also possesses a flaming fist techniques which make his tackles very potent. However, like most Fenixans, his endurance is quite low and he can be knocked down fairly easily. In combat, Rayde can be seen wielding an Official Blitzball. These uncommon weapons are surprisingly accurate.

Tortilla
Race: Fenixan
Occupation: Scoring Sensation on the Fenixa Infernos
Tortilla is a Fenixan woman whose personality is as fiery as her blazing red hair. She has mastered the rare Pheonix shot, which has made her a very high-scoring player on the Fenixa Infernos. She is also extremely fast, and swims through the water with a speed that the deserts of Fenixa have likely never before seen. She wears tight red and black leather, and high-heeled boots. In battle, this hot-headed woman wields a powerful PK-97, which is often technically illegal on the planets where she makes use of it.

Flavius
Race: Fenixan
Occupation: Player on the Fenixa Infernos
Flavius' reputation refers to him as the 'Unmovable Wall of Muscle.' This is in referance to his incredible size and endurance. Flavius could be considered quite huge for a Fenixan. He has spiky black hair, and wears black martial-arts pants. In keeping with his repuatation, he wears no shirt to show off his very well-muscled chest. Generally silent, Flavius serves his team by attempting to block any approaching players with his considerable size. In combat, this grim Fenixan uses a massive Great Scimitar to often devastating effect. Morton immiediately pegged him as the man to watch on the Fenixan team.

Don Cherry also introduced the Fenixan team's goalie, Torch. This bald fellow wore goggles which seemed to help him block the ball. He's not important enough to get his own write-up. Once the teams had posed in the certain for a few moments, the Blitzball was shot from the center and the game begun. The action was fast and furious. The Fenixans quickly seized the lead by scoring a quick goal on Keepa, who was helpless to block Rayde's powerful shot. The Deksiil team pressed hard in retaliation, and managed to floor a few of the Fenixans before getting several shots on the Infernos' net. However, Tyrus' shots did not have the momentum to get past Torch and into the net. For the trouble of trying, Tyrus took several very heavy hits from Flavius and Rayde's flaming fist. These tackles left Tyrus drifting in the water with blood spreading into the water around him. Fortunately for the beleaguered Deksiilans, Halftime was called at this point, and the two teams returned to their locker rooms to regroup. The half ended with the Fenixans in the lead at 1-0.

The three heroes were quick to lead Julio down into the Crescent Moons preparation room. Once inside, they found the players in tense conversation with Mr. Rithos. Tyrus was lying on a bench groaning, with blood dripping from his mouth. He had taken some severe punishment, and declared he couldn't play another half in this condition. Mr. Rithos knew that the roster needed to be changed. He told Julio to take Keepa's place in net, but did not have a replacement for Tyrus. Apparently, the normal replacement player for the Crescent Moons was sick on Deksiil. However, Keepa was quick to nominate Mr. Rhyze. He vouched for Rhyze's scoring abilities from the encounter in the Epsilon Hydrosphere. With no other choice, Mr. Rithos asked Mr. Rhyze to play with the team. Rhyze was only too happy to agree. The team strategy was simple. Graav and Dyela would concentrate on defense, and would get the ball up to Rhyze, who would stay by the Fenixan net and shoot like crazy. With the plan in place, the four members of the Crescent Moons swum back out into the sphere, ready for the second half.

Replacement Players

The crowd was baffled by the appearance of Mr. Rhyze in the sphere. No one had heard of this player before, and all were questioning what had become of Tyrus. All, that is, with the exception of Daikon-7, who quickly recognised the communications officer. The second half began, and once again, the Infernos seized the initiative and the ball. However, this time Graav was able to stop Rayde's advance. The play went back and forth until a long pass finally gave Mr. Rhyze a clear shot on the net. He did not hesitate to perform the Sphere Shot, which sent the ball rocketting past Torch and into the net. The score was now tied at one all, and the crowds went wild. Several viewing monitors showed slow motion replays of Rhyze's spinning shot. The Fenixans came on strong in response, and Tortilla managed to outmaneuver Dyela for a Phoenix Shot on net. This powerful, flaming shot was only blocked due to Julio's 'Super-Goalie' skills. As the minutes wound down, the two teams remained tied. It appeared that over-time was definitely imminent. However, within the last few seconds of play, Mr. Rhyze managed to grab the ball from the massive Flavius, and before the Wall could recover from his surprise, the ball was shot through the Fenixan net. The game ended at 2-1 for Deksiil. The Deksiil Crescent Moons would now be in the championships with a chance of winning the Blitzball Intergalactic Cup. After the game, only Torch would shake the hands of his Deksiilans opponents. The other Fenixans looked very angry indeed.

As the rest of the Crescent Moons went out to sign autographs, Mr. Rhyze returned to the locker room. Rei and Morton were waiting, along with the Squirttle. Moments later, the four were joined by Daikon-7. He was most impressed by Mr. Rhyze's performance, but was curious about their presence at Starbase. The group quickly explained their shore-leave, as well as the events which had recently occurred. Daikon-7 seemed concerned by the dangerous attacks of the space monsters. To aid in protecting the station, he offered the use of a Heatwave space fighter. Morton was quick to accept, and Daikon-7 told them that this ship would be waiting for them in the Docking Bay within the hour. After drinking deep from the cup of victory, the three heroes made their exit from the crowded Blitzball stadium.

Morton wanted to examine their newest ship, and went right to Docking Bay 8. Rei still needed to purchase some cleaning supplies, and led Mr. Rhyze to the Bay for this purchase. Shopping was good at the bay, and they had soon acquired all the Mr. Clean that Rei required. The only downside was the fact that they would have to carry the crate of supplies themselves down to their ship. Upon arriving at the Docking Bay, they found Morton intently inspecting the Heatwave. He seemed very pleased with the new ship. The three loaded the cleaning supplies, but their departure from the area was blocked by a lone Fenixan idly bouncing a Blitzball. Rayde actually seemed pleased to see them this time. At a gesture, the large form of Flavius loomed behind him and drew out his sword. Tortilla stepped out a bit farther back, twirling her gun in one hand. Apparently, the Fenixans were very sore losers. They also accused the heroes of rescuing Julio in time for the second half of the match.

Morton accused the Infernos of kidnapping the Deksiilan goaltender. Rayde denied that allegation, but stated that a few of their fans were always willing to help. They now intended to repay the three heroes for their actions. The battle begun moments later. Mr. Rhyze was the first target, likely due to his impressive Blitzball performance. The communications officer was the first of the heroes to go down, after hits from Rayde's official ball and Flavius' great scimitar. However, the Wall preceeded him, and was dropped by several kicks, flame-fists and bullets. This left Rayde and Tortilla against Morton and Rei. The janitor brought out her mop, but it proved to be insufficiant to defeat her enemies. The two heroes were soon defeated. As darkness descended upon them, the last thing they saw was Rayde ominously dribbling his official ball and smirking down at them. Although the Deksiilans had won the Blitzball game, the Fenixans had won this fight.

This concluded the sixth adventure in the Deep Space Campaign. The fate of the heroes remains uncertain. Rayde mentioned that he might be able to make money from some of the heroes. Speculation quickly arose that one of the heroes may have a price on their head. This claim and the fate of the heroes will only be verified in the next adventure in the Deep Space campaign.
