Final Perogative

The space bay was littered with about a half-dozen corpses, all of which belonged to Electran soldiers. After exclaiming that these men were dead, the Doctor proclaimed they hadn't been killed within the last twenty-four hours. Their wounds appear to be from lazer blasts, though a few seemed to have been sliced up. Mr. Rhyze suggested splitting up, but Fayde had other ideas. He propsed that those without names should remain in the dock to guard the ships while the rest of the team proceeded to the station's bridge. This plan met with agreement from all parties, and soon the named team had located the station's turbolift. It still seemed to be functioning, although parts of it appeared to have been smashed. After a few moments, it brought them to the bridge, where they were greeted with more signs of slaughter. Most of the bridge crew were draped over various consoles, all clearly dead. Commander Vydin was among them. Distinguished mostly by his elaborate military uniform, the commander was slumped over in his chair. One of his hands was pressed down on some buttons on the side of his chair. Upon closer inspection, Vydin appeared to have taken several close-range lazer shots to the chest. Lifting his hand revealed that it had been pressing a small red button, marked 'Delete'. This caused Fayde to smile, and proclaim that Vydin had at least succeeded in his final duty. Apparently, it was the final perogative of the Commander of the station to delete all computer files before going down to defeat. Mr. Rhyze performed a quick check at one of the consoles, and confirmed that every one of significance appeared to have been deleted. Morton wanted to know if the station would have security records that could help identify its attackers. As he worked the computers, Fayde replied that all the security information would have automatically been relayed to Electran high-command upon Vydin's final delete. But they wouldn't be able to access it from here.

Tripp was more interested in searching the bodies of the soldiers, though his search for swag did not go unnoticed by Mauritus. In fact, it was the security officer who noted that Tripp's idea to separate and search the station wasn't a good one. He didn't want to let McIntyre out of his sight. Fayde agreed that splitting up would be a dangerous plan, despite Mr. Rhyze's claims that it would get the job faster. Of course, this method would also involve the communications officer staying on the bridge while the others checked the lower levels of the station. Mr. Rhyze's declaration that surely no enemies would have remained on the crippled station seemed to almost trigger a contradiction. As such, all this discussion was cut off abruptly by a message on Mr. Rhyze's communicator. It was from the Red-Shirts stationed in the docking bay. Apparently, they were in trouble. In itself, this was hardly surprising. However, the surly medical officer was on the line moments later, declaring both that someone was dead and also that they were under attack. His words were cut off rather abruptly, with a dull-voiced Red-Shirt proclaiming him dead moments later. There was no more hesitation. All members of the team raced for the turbolift that would take them back to the docking bay. They found what they were expecting: a bloody mess. Several Red-Shirst were strewn about, most dead. There was one exception. A badly wounded Red-Shirt was slumped by the door to the Turbolift. Apparently, he had been shot by one of his comrades during an encounter with a pair of foes. He seemed unable to provide a detailed description of these foes, but claimed they had been seen in the station's nearby engineering section. Leaving Mr. Rhyze to guard the station, Fayde led the others towards this area. This also left the badly wounded Red-Shirt to slowly crawl back towards the ship, with much speculation that he wouldn't quite make it.

The door indicated by the Red-Shirt led onto a catwalk, suspended above the bowels of the station's churning machinery. It was both narrow and dark, forcing Mauritus and Morton to take the lead, while Tripp and Fayde followed behind. After clanging along the catwalk for several minutes, they found the corpse of the science officer. Tripp was more interested in the latter's tricorder, which was dangling over the side of the catwalk. It seemed to be detecting many anomalies. Whatever that meant. Mauritus found out several moments later, when he noticed a glint coming from the other end of the catwalk. It turned out to be a prelude to a lazer blast, that narrowly missed Tripp. When flashlights were focused in that direction, two armor-clad figures were revealed. Their dark armor covered them from head to toe, and gave them a very inhuman appearance. Both had a great deal of machinery strapped to them, complete with many buttons and dully flashing lights. The second of the two carried a lazer rifle, while the first pressed a button on his wrists to pop short blades from his gloves. Without uttering a single word, the two began their attack. Mauritus and Morton were hardpressed to hold them back, while Tripp laid down largely ineffective cover fire from behind. Fayde merely waiting for a chance to get to the front. At first, it seemed that only Mauritus was capable of damaging their opponents. And Morton found out firsthand the pain inflicted by a lazer rifle. Despite his battle experience, he was the first to go down, opening room for Fayde to advance to the frontlines. Before engaging, the Electran instructed Tripp to call Mr. Rhyze into action. After those words, he drew his Thunderblade and literally faded from view. Mr. Rhyze was reluctant to interrupt his Free-cell for even such an important encounter, but when he did agree to come, he arrived quickly. With his help, the first of the two armored figures went down, and the second was taking a serious beating.

Faced with such odds, the black-armored enemy took several steps back and began pressing a series of buttons on his chestplate. As a red light started to beep, Mr. Rhyze shouted that it must be a detonation sequence. This was enough to get everyone running back towards the docking bay. Mauritus only paused long enough to grab the unconscious Morton. Amazingly, the security officer had no trouble dragging the burly pilot behind him. Moments later, an explosion ripped through the engineering section, opening a hole in the side of the station and creating a space vacuum. With his flight abilities, Mr. Rhyze had no trouble exiting the area. And with Fayde and Mauritus' help, Tripp soon managed to join him in the relative safety of the docking bay. Of course, the explosion had clearly ripped apart a sizeable portion of the station, and had surely deactivated the life support system. Which definitely meant it was time to leave. As the team boarded their respective ships, Tripp noted the wounded Red-Shirt was only inches from the Wild Isle's hatch. Impressed that he had made it so far, the potential pilot dragged the nameless man into the ship, before beginning procedures for a hasty exit from the ruined station.
