Out of the Tunnels of Terror

Eventually, the four protagonists did find an exit from the tunnels. It led up into the street right outside the Moosejaw Hotel. Although it didn't directly lead up into the Parking Lot, this desired location was not too far away. Of course, the streets were a scene of chaos; mobsters and Red Wings were locked in combat all over the place, and there was much accompanying destruction. This mainly included several fire-hydrants spraying water in all directions. Fortunately, the Spherans seemed mostly occupied with taking down the gangsters at the moment, a task they were performing admirably, and didn't seem to notice the presence of the heroes. In an even greater stroke of luck, a black sedan was parked right nearby. Mr. Rhyze had no doubt that a player like himself deserved at least that much style when making his exit. As such, the group decided to commandeer the vehicle as their getaway car. Since no one else could drive, that task was left to the man in the black trenchcoat, who seemed to have no trouble hotwiring the vehicle. Fayde took shotgun, while Mr. Rhyze climbed into the back. Meanwhile, anxious to avoid any sort of injury, Morton climbed into the trunk of the car. After a terse command to hold on, the man in the black trenchcoat set the sedan racing towards the parking lot.

This escape did not escape the notice of the nearby Spherans, who opened fire on the car with their rifles. Mr. Rhyze countered by launching a Psi-Spear through the already-cracked windshield. As a Spheran recovered from this blow, he found himself involved in a high-speed collision with the Sedan. Not surprisingly, the car came out on top and continued racing towards their objective. However, as any classic chase scene would dictate, they soon found they were not in sole possession of the road. A purple sedan, occupied by a pair of angry mobsters, was catching up fast. In addition, one of the gangsters was leaning out the window of the purple vehicle and firing an autoblaster at the heroes' vehicle, inflicting heavy damage. There could only be one response. In a move highly-reminiscent of the A-Team, Morton popped out of the trunk of the black sedan and returned fire with his guns, taking out the wheels of the enemy vehicle. Before his foes could return fire, Morton ducked back down into the trunk. He needn't have worried about that, since the purple sedan was now spinning completely out of control. However, their vehicle had taken serious damage, and the man in the black trenchcoat was unable to avoid a collision with the other car. Mr. Rhyze and the fellow in the trenchcoat had no trouble flying out of the car in the nick of time. Fayde also managed to leap free just in time. But Morton was still stuck in the trunk. Amazingly, the pilot ripped free at the last moment and lept away just as the two cars exploded in a massive ball of flame.

This huge explosion stunned all those nearby, and gave the heroes time to enter the Parking Lot. At this point, the man in the black trenchcoat told them that they were on their own. He had his own transportation away from the station, and he intended to make use of it. With one less member, the three searched for a ship to use for their escape. Morton didn't think the SG-3 was nearly fast enough. Instead, the three settled on the only remaining Silver Dust transport in the bay. Opening the bay doors proved tricky, but through use of a Drakkhaan missile, and some desperate maneuvers, the three soon shot out into space. But even the speed of the Silver Dust seemed thwarted by the ring of Red Wing Drakkhaans surrounding Gangsta's Paradise. Desperately, the Epsilon team opened a communications channel with one of the Red Wings in the hopes of negotiating an escape. After informing the Spheran officer of their true identity, they could only wait while the Red Wing conferred with his superior. Finally, word came back that they were free to pass. Breathing a sigh of relief, Morton guided the Silver Dust past the blockade and set a course for Space Station Epsilon, and the relative safety they could find there.

Thus ended Adventure 19 of the Deep Space campaign. The heroes had succeeded in their mission to discover who had stolen The Croissant. In the process, they had managed to encounter several old foes and to lose both their SG-3 and the man named Shaimus. Although some wouldn't consider this second accomplishment to be a bad thing.
